The Refugee Olympic Team
During the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics,/the Refugee Olympic Team competed/for the first time. All members were refugees/from various countries. They continued training/after moving to new places.
Yusra Mardini was an 18-year-old swimmer/from Syria. She had to leave her country/because of civil wars. During her escape,/her migrant boat broke. She dived into the sea/and pushed the broken boat/for over three hours. Finally,/she reached Greece/and settled in Germany.
When she became a member of the team,/she said,/“I want to represent all the refugees/in the world. I want to show everyone/that after the pain/and after the storm,/calm days come.”
The team could not win any medals. However,/the members surely sent/a message of hope/to the world.
