Is There a Santa Claus?
Virginia was a little girl/who wanted to know about Santa
Claus.//
She sent a question to The Sun , an American
newspaper,/in 1897.//
It said:/
Dear Editor,/
I am 8 years old.//
Some of my little friends say/there is no
Santa Claus.//
Please tell me the truth;/is there a Santa Claus?//
Virginia O’Hanlon
In 1927,/the national broadcasting station in Finland/made an
announcement.//
They said/that Santa Claus lives with his gnomes in Lapland/in the
north of the country.//
His post office is in a village/which is on the Arctic
Circle.//
Thousands of letters are sent to Santa/from children all over the world.//
He and the gnomes are busy writing replies/every day.//
The editor of The Sun wrote his answer/in the
newspaper:/
Yes,/Virginia,/there is a Santa Claus.//
You can’t say/that something you can’t see does not exist.//
Santa Claus exists like love and devotion,/although you can’t see them.//
In one thousand or even ten thousand years,/he will continue/to make the hearts of children happy.//
What is your answer/to Virginia’s
question?//
