Do you know how many international students there are in Japan? In 2020, we had nearly 300,000 students from foreign countries, compared to 36,000 in 2009. The latest survey shows that most of them come from Asian countries. Let’s take a look at the result of the survey.
　　Table 1 indicates that the number of international students from Asian countries is 292,317. On the other hand, the number of those from North America is only 3,437.

　　According to Table 2, China ranks first with more than 124 thousand students. Compared to the number in the previous year, this is an 8 percent increase. Next comes Vietnam with about 73 thousand. Nepal, Korea and Taiwan rank third, fourth and fifth respectively.


　　Let’s look at Table 1 again. As you can see, the percentage of Asian students is 93.6%. Meanwhile, the percentages of the students from Europe and North America are 3.3% and 1.1% respectively.


　　Thus we can see that a greater number of Asian students are studying in Japan, while the number of students from Western countries is relatively small. Thank you for your attention.
