Nakamura Tetsu —A Respectable Doctor
Nakamura Tetsu helped many people/in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Sadly,/he was killed in 2019,/but he is still loved and respected/by people there.
In 1984,/Nakamura was sent to Pakistan/as a doctor/to provide medical care/for leprosy patients. He also visited camps/for refugees from Afghanistan. In Afghanistan,/he opened many clinics. He improved access to medical services/for local people in need.
Nakamura’s contribution was not limited/to the medical field. When a terrible drought hit Afghanistan,/many people died of diseases/caused by water shortages. He decided to build irrigation canals. He even learned/how to operate heavy machinery. He often said,/“One canal/is worth more than 100 clinics.”
