Restoring Angkor Wat
The ruins of Angkor/are a large, historic site/in Cambodia. They are registered/on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are more than 70 temples/in the ruins. The biggest and most impressive one/is Angkor Wat,/which was built around the 12th century.
In 1970,/a civil war began/in Cambodia. The historic buildings began to deteriorate. Only a few conservators/survived the war. They needed someone/to help them. In 1980,/they contacted Ishizawa Yoshiaki,/who is an expert/in restoring old buildings.
Ishizawa worked hard/to fix the temples. However,/he felt/that local people should play an important role/in this work. His motto is/“By Cambodians,/for Cambodians.” Thanks to their cooperation,/the condition of this historic site/continues to improve.
