According to a study, there were once more than 1,000 different languages in India, but about 200 of them have disappeared over the past several decades. What caused this? Without a common language, people could not communicate with one another. That is one reason why more Indians are starting to use English and Hindi. However, if all Indians were to stop using local languages, much of their culture would disappear, too.
