And the Christmas Truce is remembered,/too.//
It has inspired many books, movies and songs,/which tell how soldiers put down their guns,/walked across No Man’s Land,/and shook hands.//
They explain how young men shared food,/talked of their families,/and hoped to celebrate the next Christmas/at home with their loved ones.//
For these young men,/the Christmas Truce was a very special event.//
In 1914,/after Christmas Day was over,/fighting started again along the Western Front.//
The Great War had returned/and would continue for several more years.//
Sadly,/the Christmas Truce was never repeated.//
But for a brief moment at Christmastime in 1914,/there really was peace on earth.//
