Chair :
Today, we will talk about whether to buy things or take out subscriptions.// Ken, do you have any ideas about this?//
Ken :
I think there are advantages and disadvantages to both subscriptions and the ownership of things.// For example, it is a waste of money to buy clothes that you will rarely wear.//
Chair :
So, you think it’s better to borrow things, don’t you?// What do you think, Mary?//
Mary :
I like reading comics, so I buy them with my pocket money, but my bookshelves are always full.// A subscription might get me out of this situation.// By paying a certain amount, you have access to lots of titles, so it’s cheaper, and it doesn’t produce clutter.//
Ken :
You are right, Mary.// Lots of people use subscriptions for music, too.// One advantage of this is that you get to hear songs you haven’t heard before.// But you need to compare the amount you actually pay with what you would pay if you bought each individual CD of the songs you want.//
Chair :
OK, I see.// In summary, it’s not that one is better than the other.// You should decide which is better for you, to buy or to subscribe, depending on the things you wish to buy.//
